For detailed instructions, refer to "Separation Management" in the Rainbow™ Color Proofing System User's Guide.
For users who wish to proof/print specific colors or send and proof separated files with more than CMYK plates, Rainbow™ software includes three color libraries: PANTONE™, 3M Matchprint™, and Custom Colors. Users also can create their own customized libraries. Colors included in these custom libraries are output according to their L*a*b* color space measurements. Up to 8 color separations per page can be sent and proofed.
The Separation Management feature of the Rainbow™ controller software is used for holding the supplied color libraries (such as PANTONE™), creating and maintaining the customized color libraries, and setting separation printing priority.
From the Separation Management Dialog box, the user can:
- Create a new color library that then becomes selectable in the Color Library pulldown menu.
- Add specific, custom colors to unprotected color libraries-color libraries the user creates-using their L*a*b* color space measurements or the Color Picker dialog box.
- Select the separation printing priority (if using a custom ribbon). The separation printing priority determines the order in which separations will be
printed on the proof.
- Example:
Process colors, CMYK, are preassigned a priority of 0. Therefore, to have the Rainbow™ proofer lay down a custom color before CMYK, the user must specify a negative priority number for that color, such as -1.
- The software will display a message telling the user when to put in the custom ribbon and when to put back the CMYK ribbon.
TIPS
Color Libraries Feature
Allows you to:
- View colors from supplied color libraries
- Create customized color libraries
- Add, delete, duplicate, or edit colors from unprotected color libraries
Printing Custom Colors
Be sure to:
- Send as separated files from the page layout or graphic application. If custom colors are sent as a composite proof, the colors are run through the selected CMYK color target color space of the Rainbow™ software; when sent as separate plates, the colors are run through their own color space.
